How to Extract a Brass Screw From Hardwood
Nothing adds additional time to a home improvement project than having to remove a damaged screw. This problem is most common with brass screws, because the metal is so soft. There is an easy way to remove damaged brass screws completely from hardwood, and it only requires the use of a couple of basic tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Locate the damaged screw, and determine the size of the extractor you will be using. The extractor kit comes with several different sizes of extractors. The extractor actually burrows into the damaged screw head when the drill is turned on and applies pressure to remove it.

Attach the extractor to the end of the drill, and tighten it down with the chuck for the drill. Make sure that it is not loose, because that would detract from its effectiveness.

Place the tip of the extractor on the screw head or what remains of it. Push down firmly on the drill. Slowly pull the trigger on the drill. Go slowly until a portion of the screw is removed. Once you get about half an inch of the screw out you can go faster or clamp pliers around the screw and continue turning.
