How to Bake Canned Yams
Instead of peeling yams and boiling them on the stovetop, canned yams can be used to save both time and effort. Baked yams, commonly known as candied yams, include ingredients such as sugar and butter which combined create a sweet dish. Baking the canned yams in the oven, with a few added ingredients, gives them a lots of flavor, a golden brown color and a crispy texture. Things You'll Need
- 1 can yams or sweet potatoes
- Colander
- Blender
- Medium baking dish
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

Heat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Open the can of yams. Drain the yams in a colander and pour them into a blender. Blend the yams into a smooth texture, similar to mashed potatoes.

Pour the yams into a medium baking dish. Cut butter into small pieces and place over the yams.

Sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar over the yams. Pour 1 1/2 cups of miniature marshmallows over the brown sugar.

Bake in the oven for 25 minutes. Remove the yams when they are tender and the marshmallows have melted completely and have turned a rich brown color.

Tips & Warnings
Add other ingredients such as cinnamon, nutmeg or raisins to customize the baked yams to suit your tastes.
If you want to bake the yams without other ingredients, bake the yams in the oven at 350 degrees F for 12 to 15 minutes.
Watch the yams carefully while they bake in the oven to prevent them from burning.
