Flower Girl Basket Directions
Adding a flower girl to your wedding brings a sweet, angelic presence to your day. You might even select two or three flower girls to help you celebrate. This is not uncommon, as several little flower girls are even cuter than just one. However many you choose, you can save money on their baskets by making them yourself. You can either cover the baskets' surfaces with bridal satin to match your gown or allow the wicker to show through for more decorating options.
Things You'll Need
- Small basket
- 1/2 yard bridal satin
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- 4 yards ribbon
- Flower petals
- Theme-coordinated decorations

Fabric-Covered Basket
-
1
Turn on your hot glue gun to allow it to preheat.
-
2
Unfold the satin material and place the basket in the middle. Fold the material up over the top of the basket's rim, arranging the rest inside. If there is too much fabric inside the basket, trim the excess away, leaving enough to completely cover the bottom.
-
-
3
Glue the fabric in place using small dollops of hot glue every 3 inches, making sure the outside edge is wrapped in material. Allow it to dry completely before moving on.
-
4
Wrap the ribbon tightly around the handle of the basket, securing the edges at the handle's base. Trim the ends at angles to prevent the material from unraveling. Wrap the remaining ribbon around the rim of the basket, gluing it in place as you work. When it has dried, use the loose ends to tie a bow at the basket's front.
-
5
Fill the inside of the basket with flower petals for your flower girl to toss before you as you walk down the aisle.

6
Wrap the basket's handle with ribbon, gluing the ends on the inside of the basket and trimming the ribbon's edges at angles to prevent fraying. Tie polished-looking bows around the bases of the handle and glue them in place.

7
Glue decorations inspired by your wedding's theme onto the surface and rim of the basket. Ideas include starfish and seashells for a beach wedding, holly for a winter wedding, or brooches for a splash of elegance. You can also completely cover the basket's surface with silk flowers for a kissing ball-inspired look.
