1
Change the nectar/syrup in your hummingbird feeder once a week. In summer, change it once every two days. If your feeder is exposed to direct, unfiltered sunlight all day, change the nectar daily. The nectar can spoil quite easily and if left unchanged can cause the hummingbirds to become ill.

2
Clean your hummingbird feeder every time you change the nectar. Fill a bucket with water and a few drops of both dish soap and bleach. Scrub the feeder well in the solution, making sure to thoroughly clean every part. Rinse well with water.

Watch for any insects or pests that might be trying to get to the nectar. Spray the feeder with a hose as needed to wash away any nectar remnants that might be attracting insects.
