Decorating the Banquet Hall
It can be expensive to decorate a large banquet hall, especially if you hire a professional decorator. You don't have to spend a lot of money decorating if you "dress" the banquet hall yourself. Look for decorations that are on sale at your local craft and party supply stores. Decorate on a budget by trying to be inventive and resourceful with supplies you already own. Setting a budget for decorations will help minimize costs. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Decide on a theme for your party. A theme will provide ideas for decorations. This will also give you an idea for what colors to use. For example, if you are planning a pirate-themed birthday party, you may want to use black and gold to decorate.

2
Give guests a place to sit by setting up tables and chairs. This will also take up room and shrink the size of the space you need to decorate. If there aren't tables and chairs available at the facility to use, consider renting some from a party supply rental company.

Create a party atmosphere by adding color. Do this with table cloths, napkins and different colored flowers. Party supply stores sell decorations in a variety of colors from white to black and everything in between. Tape two or three balloons in the each corner of the room and tie a helium-filled balloon to each chair. Unravel a roll of streamers the length of one wall and twist it to create a different look. Hang the streamer by taping each end to the wall.

Add a centerpiece to the tables. An attractive centerpiece can be made of flowers, candles, fruits and balloons. Check your local craft store to see if there's a sale on artificial flowers. Buying flowers on sale can be less expensive than purchasing several flower arrangements made by a florist. Placing fruits like lemons, limes, apples or oranges in a vase can also work as a centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings
Save money by reusing some of the decorations. For example, if a banquet room is being used as a reception location after a wedding ceremony, bring some of the decorations from the ceremony to the banquet hall.
