How Do I Clean an XL1200 Air Conditioner Compressor?

Trane XL1200 is a central air conditioning unit with the compressor outside, like most central air units. If the compressor is blocked or clogged, the airflow into your house won't be as strong or as cool as it should.       Turn off the Trane XL1200 air conditioner. Rake all of the leaves and other debris away from the outdoor unit.

      Remove the screws in the compressor's cover siding with the screwdriver and pull the cover's sides from the compressor. The compressor covering is the entire outside cover of the outdoor Trane unit. Each side of the compressor has a cover siding that can be removed. Remove each side of the covering to get at the compressor.

      Vacuum the fins of the air conditioner's compressor with the brush attachment of your vacuum to remove any trapped debris or dust.

      Comb the compressor fins with a fin comb, available at home improvement stores.

      Place each side of the compressor's covering back on the air conditioning unit. Tighten the screws back into place to hold the compressor covering on the Trane air conditioning unit.
