How to Find Air Freshener Ingredients

Some air freshener ingredients have been linked to cancer.

Air fresheners have grown in popularity over the past 30 years. Air fresheners add fragrance to bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, and offices. The fragrances range from fruit to flowers. However, there a variety of chemical ingredients used to produce those fragrances. In recent years there has been concern over the health effects of air freshener ingredients. Once you know what the ingredients are, you can find out whether there are side effects associated with them.

Instructions

1. Read the air freshener label. The ingredients are typically listed on the air freshener. If you don't see the ingredients on the air freshener, check the packaging for the ingredients.

2. Check the manufacturer's website. Locate the manufacturer's name and/or website on the air freshener or packaging. Ingredients are listed on many company websites.

3. Review the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website. The EPA provides information about household products such as air fresheners. You'll find a list of chemicals and ingredients used in the air fresheners.

4. Go to your local library. Research the possible side effects of the chemical ingredients of the air fresheners you use.
