How to Stop Postal Mail From Being Forwarded

When you plan to move, you need to let the post office know your new address for forwarding your mails, bills and checks. The post office will forward mails for a period of 18 months and magazines and other periodicals to a new address for a period of 60 days. If, for some reason, you want to stop mail from being forwarded you can cancel the mail forwarding service through the cancellation form available on the USPS website.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to the website of USPS.

    • 2

Look for the mail forwarding cancellation form. If you have an account on the USPS website, you will find the cancellation form in the billing details page of the account tab.

    • 3

Fill form F020 of the USPS for temporary mail forwarding. You must show a specific start and end date in the form so that mail forwarding will automatically stop on the end date. Your temporary forwarding request cannot exceed 12 months.

Tips & Warnings

  • Payments made to the USPS for mail forwarding is nonrefundable and you cannot get a refund if you stop mail forwarding before 18 months.
