How to Repair a Pool With the E-Z Patch
E-Z Patch is a plaster compound that helps repair nicks and cracks in the surface of the pool. The product comes in a variety of forms. The fast-drying compound works under or above the water line. The original plaster repair product must be applied above the water line and takes longer to set. Both kits work in a similar fashion and require little effort. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Drain the pool if using the original repair kit, as opposed to the "Fast Set" product. Drain only enough water out of the pool to expose the area that needs repair. If working above the water line, clean the plaster surface with a sponge.
-
2
Place a chisel into the crack and tap lightly with a hammer. Chisel the crack or hole until it is 3/8 inch to 1 inch deep. If working above the water, use a sponge to wipe down the plaster surface and remove any dust.

3
Mix the compound following the instructions on the package. The consistency of the plaster should be similar to mashed potatoes. If it is too thin, add more mix. If the paste is too thick, add more water. If using Fast Set, only mix as much as you can use in five minutes.
-
4
Press the compound into the gap and press down over it with a trowel. Move the trowel back and forth to smooth the plaster until it is flush with the surface. If working about the water, wipe the excess plaster off regularly with a sponge. Continue smoothing the mixture until it is even with the surface of the pool. You may need to apply more mix as you work, especially if working under the water. The excess compound will dissolve in the water and become inert.

Tips & Warnings
If the plaster looks off-color, it will eventually stain to match the original plaster.
If you do not have a trowel, you can press the compound in with your palm. Use your finger to wipe off any excess.
The fast-drying mixture will take one hour to set. The original plaster may take overnight. The company website explains that fast-drying compound is easier to use for most people. If repairing a line or thin crack, push into the crack from one side, as opposed to from the top. This will fill the crevice fully.
