EZ Go 36V Battery Installation

You can save a lot of money by installing your own 6-volt batteries in an EZ Go golf cart. These batteries can be found at most auto parts stores and at some larger warehouse stores. The EZ Go TXT models run by electricity and can attain a top speed of 14 mph.

Things You'll Need

  • 9/16-inch insulated wrench
  • 1/2-inch socket
  • Socket driver
  • Six 6-volt golf cart batteries

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove the key.

      Open the bench seat to gain access to the battery compartment. Lift off the entire seat and set it aside.

      Remove the main positive and negative leads with a 9/16-inch insulated wrench.

      Remove the five interconnect cables with the insulated wrench.

      Remove the hold-down bar by first removing the bolt with a 1/2-inch socket, then lift off.

      Remove the old batteries.

    • 7

      Clean the empty compartment with a mixture of baking soda and water. Allow the compartment to dry.

      Place the new batteries in the compartment. They go in two rows of three each. Make sure the negative posts are facing each other.

      Connect the main positive cable from the EZ Go to the positive post on the first battery.

      Connect the negative post of the first battery to the positive post of the second battery using one of the interconnect cables.

      Connect the negative post of the second battery to the positive post of the third battery using one of the interconnect cables.

      Connect the negative post of the third battery to the positive post of the fourth battery using one of the interconnect cables.

      Connect the negative post of the fourth battery to the positive post of the fifth battery using one of the interconnect cables.

      Connect the negative post of the fifth battery to the positive post of the sixth battery using one of the interconnect cables.

      Connect the main negative cable from the EZ Go to the negative post on the sixth battery.

      Place the hold-down bar over the batteries and reinstall the hardware. Place the seat back on top of the battery compartment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once installed, you can extend the life of your batteries by using a protective coating.

  • Recycle the used batteries by dropping them off at a local auto repair shop or scrap yard that accepts them.

  • To prevent battery explosion, keep all flames, sparks and smoking materials away from the batteries.
