Remove dirt and odors from sleeping bags.

Quest Mummy sleeping bags are, according to the Bass Prop Shops website, lightweight sleeping bags that are ideal for warm weather camping trips. Washing the sleeping bag as soon as you return home is recommended, even if no precipitation, mud, dirt or other visible particles are located on the bag. Utilizing the proper method thoroughly washes the inside and outside of the bag without changing the item's shape or staining the fabric of the bag.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Bathtub
  • Water
  • Non-bleach liquid dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Clothes line/pole
  • Hanger or clothes pins (Optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the sleeping bag. Remove dirt and other particles with the soft-bristled brush.

    • 2

Unlatch any zippers and buttons found on the sleeping bag.

    • 3

Fill your bathtub with enough water to submerge the sleeping bag. Then, add a few tablespoons of the liquid dish soap and one cup of white vinegar into the tub.

    • 4

Put on the cleaning gloves. Then, place your hands into the solution and use them to work the cleaning solution throughout the surface of the bag. Do this for a few minutes.

    • 5

Soak the bag for 15 to 30 minutes. Then empty the tub.

    • 6

Rinse the sleeping bag thoroughly with lukewarm water from the tub's faucet or the shower. Then lay the bag on the bottom of the tub.

    • 7

Press down on the bag to eliminate excess water. Flip the bag over to the opposite side. Press down on the bag again to eliminate any remaining excess liquid.

    • 8

Hang the bag outside on a clothes line or on a pole, such as a shower rod, inside of a well-ventilated room. Do not put the sleeping bag away until it's completely dry, or else you risk mold and mildew appearing on or inside the bag.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't place sleeping bags inside of a dryer. Dryers damage the sleeping bag's original shape.
