How to Remove Powered by PhpBB

PhpBB, the free, open-source online community management system, or message board, comes with a "Powered by PhpBB" message posted at the bottom of the forum with a hyperlink to the PhpBB website. You can easily modify the template to remove this message. By doing so, however, keep in mind that you'll be unable to use the PhpBB support forums for assistance if you run into problems.

  • Log into your web hosting account. Access your hosting file manager. If you are using an FTP program to access the files on your server, open the FTP program and use your username and password to sign in.

  • Open the "PhpBB" folder in your website directory, then open "Styles."

  • Open "Templates" and then open the "Overall_Footer.html" file.

  • Highlight the "Powered by PhpBB" text with your mouse. Click the "Delete" or "Backspace" button to delete the text and hyperlink.

  • Click the "Save" button to save your changes. You'll no longer see the text on the forum's footer.
