Floodlight Installation

Floodlight Installation thumbnail
Mount floodlights on standard junction boxes.

Floodlights cast a wide beam of light in the desired direction. Use them under the eaves of houses or on your ceiling inside to illuminate a special feature, provide security or provide task lighting to a special work area. Install floodlights on any standard junction box that has enough power to safely operate the bulb. A 100 watt light adds approximately one amp to the circuit. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the breaker supplying electricity to the junction box. Pull the wires from the junction box and remove the wire nuts from their ends, turning them counterclockwise.

    • 2

Match the lead wires from your floodlight fixture to the wires coming from the junction box. The white wire goes to the white wire and black goes to black. Twist a wire nut onto each pair of wires, turning clockwise. Wrap each wire nut with electrical tape to provide better insulation. Loosen the green screw on the base of the floodlight fixture and wrap the green wire around it. Tighten the screw onto the wire using the screwdriver.

    • 3

Tuck the wires up into the junction box and fit the base of the floodlight onto the box. Align the screw holes in the floodlight base with the holes in the junction box and install the two mounting screws. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver. Install a floodlight bulb and turn the fixture to point in the direction where you want light.

    • 4

Restore power at the breaker box and turn on your floodlight. Make any adjustments to the focus of the beam while the light is on for greater clarity. Wear leather gloves to work with the fixture if it is hot.
