Don't let Access slow you down.

The Access 2007 database program can store thousands of files, but sometimes it gets overloaded. When this happens, the program becomes sluggish as it tries to load all of the data. A simple way to speed up the program again is to compact the database down to a quarter of its original size. This action saves room on your computer and helps Access 2007 run more efficiently. You can also have the Access program automatically shrink its database every time you use it.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," "Programs" and "Access 2007."

    • 2

Click the "Office" button in the top left corner of the program.

    • 3

Click "Manage" and "Compact and Repair Database." Wait for the program to compact itself.

    • 4

Click the "Office" button again, and then click "Access Options" at the bottom. It will open another window that has boxes to check off.

    • 5

Click "Current Database," and check the box next to "Compact on Close." This tells Access to automatically compact the database each time you close the program.

    • 6

Click "OK" to save the changes. Close and reopen Access to apply the changes.
