How to Insert a Photo in the Body of an Email With Outlook

Microsoft Outlook provides a desktop solution for receiving and sending emails through your email account. Part of Outlook is a full-featured email editor that includes several message creation tools, such as the ability to insert an image into the body of an email as opposed to including the image as an attachment. Outlook users have the option of inserting clip art from their computers, copying images from a website or inserting one of their own images stored on their computers.

Instructions

  1. Clip Art Photos

      Launch Microsoft Outlook and choose "New E-mail" at the top of the screen.

      Select the location for your image in the body of the email.

      Click "Insert" at the top of the screen, then choose "Clip Art" from the "Illustrations" section.

      Type a search term into the text field next to "Search for" in the Clip Art window, then click "Go." Note that you can also specify a specific Clip Art collection or include results from other types of media in your search.

      Select one of the search results to insert it into the body of your email.

    Personal Photos

      Open Microsoft Outlook, then click "New E-mail" at the top of the window.

      Select the location in the email where you wish to place the photo, then click the "Insert" tab at the top of the window.

      Locate the "Illustrations" section and click "Picture."

      Navigate to the location of the desired photo stored on your computer, then click the photo once to select it.

    Web Photos

      Open Microsoft Outlook and click "New E-mail" on the ribbon at the top of the screen.

      Open an Internet browser window and navigate to the website containing the image you wish to insert.

      Return to your Outlook message and select the location in the body of the email where you would like to paste the image.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many email providers will block images that are embedded into the body of an incoming email and include the image as an attachment with the email. This is a security measure meant to help prevent spam.
