Instructions

    • 1

Pour the uncooked rice into the metal strainer. Hold it under cool, running water for 5 minutes to rinse away the glutenous water that results from it. This process makes a difference in how the rice tastes once it is prepared.

    • 2

Add two cups of water to the stockpot. Add 1 tbsp. of rice bran oil. Bring the water to a rolling boil.

    • 3

Add the uncooked, strained rice to the rolling, boiling water. Cover it and let it cook for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to a simmer and remove the lid.

    • 4

Add the vinegar and onion to the simmering pot of rice. Cover the pot and allow it to simmer for 30 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Serve the Indian style rice with your choice of curry sauce or sauteed vegetables if you wish. It also accommodates shrimp, chicken and other meats well.
