How to Grow Purple Statice Flower

Purple statice, also known as sea lavender and statice plumbago, loves the sun. In the summer, the plant is covered with small lavender flowers on dark green foliage. Other colors are available, including apricot, pink, yellow and blue. The flowers are popular in arrangements and for drying. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Plant purple statice in a sunny location with good drainage. In hot climates, choose a location that is shaded during the hottest part of the day.

    • 2

Sow purple statice seeds in the spring. Place seeds on the surface of the soil and cover with a very thin layer of soil. Water them gently to avoid washing the seeds away.

    • 3

Keep the soil moist until seeds germinate and establish roots. Purple statice is drought tolerant.

    • 4

Thin the plants to 1-1/2 to 2 feet apart to allow the plants room to spread out. The mature plant grows in a clump 1 to 2 feet tall and about 1-1/2 feet wide.

    • 5

Remove spent flowers as they fade to encourage further blooming.
