How to Reassert a Claim With a Credit Card Company
Fraudulent charges on your credit cards happen. The first thing you think to do is to contact the credit card company to file a claim. It may seem simple to you; you didn't make the charges so you shouldn't be responsible for paying for them. But, it isn't always that simple. Sometimes the credit card companies reject your claim. At this time, you will need to reassert a claim to the credit card company in the hopes of clearing the fraudulent charges and restoring the funds.

Collect additional information that will better support your claim. One of the likely reasons the credit card company rejected your claim is that you weren't able to properly support and backup your claim. More information will work in your favor.

File a police report if you haven't already. In a majority of the cases where fraudulent charges occur, the guilty party is a friend or family member. This may have stopped you from bring up criminal charges against a loved one. This may also be why the credit card company decided to reject your claim. The company will want to get reimbursed for the funds it will lose when accepting the claim. One way for the company to get reimbursed is from restitution obtained from a criminal conviction. Show them you are serious about the situation and will work with them by filing a police report even if it is against a family member.

Submit the additional evidence and the police report to the credit card company. Inform the company you are reasserting a previous claim and that you have additional information to support your claim. Send the information by certified mail.

Start on collecting the information you need to reassert the claim immediately after having the first claim rejected. You have up to 60 days after the fraudulent charges are made to file a claim.
