How Do You Fill a Zippo Lighter?

Refill your Zippo lighter with the proper lighter fluid.

Zippo lighters were created in 1932 by the Zippo Manufacturing Company. All Zippo lighters are made out of metal, and are refillable. There is even a line of Zippo lighters designed for the military. Proper care of your Zippo lighter will allow you to continue using it for years to come, including filling it with the correct lighter fluid.

• Zippo lighter fluid

Instructions

1. Flip the lid to your Zippo lighter case, and pull the Zippo lighter out. This is easily done by pulling straight up.

2. Turn the Zippo lighter upside down to reveal a felt pad. Lift it up.

3. Squeeze the Zippo lighter fluid into the packing material underneath the felt pad. Go slow so you do not overfill the lighter. Stop after you see the packing material begin to look saturated.

4. Press the felt pad back down, and flip your lighter upside right again.

5. Slide your Zippo lighter back into the case, and close the lid.

Tips & Warnings

• Watch for lighter fluid spills. Clean them up immediately if they happen, and wait several minutes before igniting the Zippo lighter.
