If you enjoy the seared ahi tuna steak commonly served at Japanese restaurants, you may be surprised to discover how simple it is to create at home. Ahi tuna, or yellowfin tuna, can be served seared on the outside and raw on the inside. Create this dish at home to impress your friends and family. Things You'll Need

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. grated ginger
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1 green onion
  • 1 tsp. lime juice

      Combine the sesame oil, soy sauce, fresh ginger, minced garlic, sliced green onions, and lime juice in a bowl.

      Add the tuna steaks to the marinade and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerator for at least an hour.

      Place a non-stick skillet on the stove over high heat. Add the tuna to the pan and sear on one side for one minute to a minute and a half on each side.

      Remove the tuna steaks from the pan. Slice into 1/4-inch slices and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Feel free to create your own marinade based on your taste preferences.

  • Coat the steaks with sesame seeds before searing for restaurant-style ahi tuna.

  • Sear the ahi tuna for longer on each side if you would prefer it to be cooked a little more in the middle.
