Instructions

    • 1

Bake three circular cakes (8" or 9" pans work well). Also bake one rounded cake of the same diameter. Use an oven-safe bowl of the same diameter (8" or 9"). Let all four cakes cool then remove from the baking pans.

    • 2

Set one cake layer on a cake platter. Frost the top of the cake with buttercream frosting. Set a second layer on top of the cake and frost the top of the second layer. Be sure the layers are stacked completely even. Place a third layer on top of the frosted second layer. Frost the top of this layer.

    • 3

Cut a hole in the center of the rounded cake. Make the hole approximately 3-inches wide and all the way through the cake. You should be left with a cake with a hole in the center all the way through. Place the cake on top of the frosted third layer. Be sure the rounded side is on top.

    • 4

Frost the outside of the entire cake. Use a clean piece of cardstock and hold it with both hands. Starting at the bottom of the cake scrape the edge all the way up to the top. Continue all the way around the cake to create a smooth surface.

    • 5

Wrap the lower half (waist down) of a Barbie doll with plastic wrap. Place the doll in the hole of the top layer. Frost the inner edges around the doll to create a smooth finish on top of the cake so the cake itself looks like the doll's dress.

Add sprinkles and edible decorations on the frosting as desired.
