The X6170 lets multiple computers connect to it wirelessly.

If you work in an office you may already know that the Lexmark X6170 All-In-One can scan, print, fax and copy. To print and receive faxes the X6170 needs enough black and color ink in its cartridges. If documents that you print seem choppy or faded, the X6170 is most likely running out of ink. Replacing the ink helps keep your printed documents looking sharp and professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the X6170 and pull up the scanner lid until the red support drops down. Release the lid.

    • 2

Press forward on the empty ink cartridge tab, located at the front of the cartridge. Pull up to release the cartridge from the carrier.

    • 3

Pull off the packaging material surrounding the new cartridge, such as the clear tape on the bottom, as well as the surrounding foam and sticker. Make sure not to touch the gold contact on the cartridge.

    • 4

Slide the cartridge into the correct carrier, with the color indicator facing up and the gold contact facing down. The gold contact should also face toward the back of the carrier. The black ink cartridge is placed in the left carrier, and the color cartridge in the right one.

    • 5

Press down on the carrier lid until you hear a snap, which indicates that the cartridge is properly seated. Pull up on the scanner lid and move the scanner support to the right to disengage it. Shut the lid.

    • 6

Place some paper into the paper loading tray, if there is none. Look at the digital control panel. Select the type of cartridge you just installed, such as color, black, brand new or used. When prompted, select "Align the print cartridges."
