Do It Yourself Concrete Floor Finishing
It is important to seal concrete floors such as in a basement or garage to provide protection from the elements. Concrete soaks up moisture and that can eventually damage the floor. Also, since concrete is unattractive, adding epoxy paint not only protects, but helps beautify. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Broom or vacuum
- Grease removal cleaner
- Epoxy concrete paint
- Paint rollers

Remove all the items from the room that rest on the floor.

Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove any loose debris. After sweeping, clean the floor with hot, soapy water. If grease spots exist like in a garage, clean the floor with grease removal cleaners.

Patch any cracks with concrete flashing. Wait until the flashing dries, then sand the surface of the crack repair with a sanding block. If necessary, sweep and clean the floor again.

Apply one coat of epoxy concrete paint with a paint roller. Do not paint yourself into a corner. Start in the back of the room and paint toward the door. Allow adequate drying time, then add a second coat of paint. If you plan on heavy traffic, you can add a third coat of the paint. Allow at least 72 hours after the final coat before using the room.
