Wedding Flower Arrangements Instructions
Wedding floral arrangements can be expensive, but if you purchase the flowers and arrange them yourself, it may be worth your time. Flowers are naturally beautiful so it is not rocket science to make beautiful arrangements as long as you know some key tips. Overly decorative flower arrangements tend to be more unattractive and more expensive. Keep it simple by buying less of a variety of flowers but higher quality flowers.

1
Choose which types of flowers you will use in all of the arrangements. Make a list of selected flower types and write what colors of each you will use. Coordinate the colors with the colors of the wedding decorations. Decide which flower type will be the primary flower that is usually placed in the center of the arrangement and accented with other flowers. Consider roses, iris and chrysanthemum for winter flowers and orchid, marigold or astrid for a summer wedding.

2
Find vases that match the design of your wedding. Use antique vases if you are designing a traditionally-style wedding, retro vases for a retro-style wedding or clear glass vases for a zen or contemporary-style wedding. Buy vases that are similar and matching.

Cut the flower stems 6 inches or less from the bottom the evening before the wedding to allow them to have fresh access to the water. Put them in lukewarm water.

4
Use a utility knife to cut a piece of floral foam to fit inside the bottom of each vase. Place each piece of foam inside each vase. Put one of your primary flowers in the center of each vase and push it into the foam to hold it in place. Pick a small group, about four flowers, of an accent type and place them around each side of the primary flower. Cut each ring of flowers slightly shorter than the ring of flowers it surrounds for ideal visibility of all the different flower types.

5
Add other rings of other types of flowers for visual interest. Keep them as separate rings, or mix the different kinds of flowers if you are looking for a more natural, wildflower arrangement. Symmetry of flowers is helpful for an organized, styled look. Use flowers, ferns or baby's breath to fill in gaps or add more variety.
