Instructions

    • 1

Check out the laws regarding pet burial on your property in your area. Some places do not allow pet burial.

    • 2

Look for a place to bury your pet within the backyard. Discuss with family members the best place to put your furry pal. Make sure the spot you choose is away from gas lines, utility cables and electrical lines.

    • 3

Wrap your pet's body in heavy duty plastic and place it in a wooden or metal box. Enclosing the body will protect from odors that emit from the body.

    • 4

Dig a hole. Use a sturdy shovel to dig a hole wide and long enough to fit your pet's coffin. Dig the hole at least 3 feet deep to keep wild animals at bay.

    • 5

Place the coffin in the hole. Cover the coffin with the dirt removed from the hole. Tamp the earth down by lightly pressing the back of the shovel over the dug area.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plant a shrub, tree or other plant as a grave marker for you beloved animal.

  • Conduct a simple ceremony and ask visitors to talk about their favorite memory of your pet.
