Rather than spending hours rifling through tax instruction manuals attempting to calculate taxes by filling out worksheet after worksheet you now get to input information into your computer and have your return put together for you. Electronically filing is not only simpler than filing by hand it also means the Internal Revenue Service receives your income tax return more quickly. Checking the status of your electronically filed income tax return is simple.

      Visit the Web site you used to electronically file your income tax return. When you filed you were asked to create a username and password so you could save your information, have this information on hand.

      Log in to your tax account and use the icons at the top of the page to locate your recently filed return. Because each electronic tax preparer's site is different you will have to search the page for this information, but it should be easily accessible under your My Account options.

      Choose the link to check the status of your recently filed income tax return; your account will tell you that your return was filed and it will tell you whether or not the Internal Revenue Service accepted your income tax return.

      Check the status of your electronically filed return by checking the status of your income tax refund -- this only works if you are due a refund. Use the IRS' "Where's My Refund" search page. Enter your Social Security number, filing status and the dollar amount of your refund. Click the search button and view the results of your refund. If your refund disbursement date appears you know your return has been received and accepted by the IRS.
