Parchment scroll invitations can be made at home.

Parchment scroll invitations are a versatile way to send your party information to your party guests. They can be used for a prince or princess party, a baby shower or even a wedding. Many invitation printing companies offer parchment scroll invitations, but they are usually very expensive. If you prefer to make your invitations yourself you can make your own at home using parchment paper and ribbon. Making your own invitation gives you control over the finished product and quality.

Step 1

Write your invitation details out on the parchment. You can either use a word processing program with special flowing fonts or you can write it by hand if you have neat handwriting. Make sure your invitation information is centered on the page and you allow about an inch at the top and bottom of your parchment to add dowel rods.

Step 2

Cut two dowel rods per invitation which are the width of your paper plus two additional inches. Sand the cut ends of the dowel rods to smooth them. Paint your dowels if you want them colored and allow them to dry.

Step 3

Apply craft glue to the top edge of your paper. The width of the line of glue should be as wide as your dowel rods circumference. Place a cut dowel rod onto the glue and roll it over. Hold it in place for a moment until the glue will hold the paper to the dowel rod on its own. Repeat this with the other end of the paper using a second cut dowel rod. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Step 4

Roll the parchment invitation around the dowel rods, rolling from both ends, until the dowels meet in the middle.

Step 5

Tie a length of ribbon around the center of the invitation to hold it in place. The length of ribbon you need depends upon the size of your invitation.

Step 6

Place your completed invitations into mailing tubes. These are available at packing supply stores and the post office. If you prefer, you can skip the mailing tubes and hand deliver your invitations.

Warning

Depending on the specific theme for your party, you can find parchment in different colors and textures. Parchment can be found at paper and party supply stores. For a fun touch, use royal sounding wording including “Here Ye! Here Ye!”, “You are presence is humbly requested” and “By royal proclamation”. If you are handwriting your invitations, consider using a fountain pen and calligraphy for a more authentic feel.
