How to Build a Camping World Race Truck
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, formerly known as the Craftsman Truck Series, races trucks from Dodge, Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford. These racing-fortified trucks weigh almost two tons and race at many of the world's most famous circuits including Daytona International Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway. Because of the the trucks race at prestigious racetracks at very high speeds, NASCAR mandates that the trucks be built to their standards. This means that most of the parts, including the engine, are mandated by NASCAR. You will not be permitted to race if you do not use the officially mandated parts.

1
Weld together steel tubes to build the frame of the race truck. Here are the official dimension for the race trucks: The length must be 208 inches, the height of the cab must be 51 inches and the width of the entire truck must be 72.5 inches. This will protect the driver and help with truck's stability when driving at speeds over 180 miles per hour. When all the welding is finished, a complete race truck frame will look like a skeleton of a truck.
-
2
Apply sheet metal to the truck's frame by welding it into place. The only areas where you will not weld sheet metal to are the front and rear windshield and the driver's side and passenger's side windows.

-
3
Paint the truck. Most trucks are sponsored by corporations and when they are, the paint scheme usually matches the colors of your sponsor.
-
4
Attach the steering wheel and starting equipment into the driver's cab.
-
5
Insert the 22-gallon fuel tank into the bed of the truck.
-
6
Place the 358-inch pushrod V8 engine into the engine bay in front of the driver's cab. These engines are extremely heavy, so you will have to use an engine lift to help you get the engine into position. Run the engine's starter into the engine. Attach the fuel line from the engine to the fuel tank.
-
7
Add the drivetrain under the cab and the rotors in the wheel wells.
-
8
Add the Goodyear racing slick tires to the rotors. Goodyear is the official manufacturer of tires for the upper NASCAR division. No other tire may be used.
-
9
Add a racing net into the driver's side window. This will prevent the driver's arms from falling out of the window during a wreck.
