How Can I Disable the Color Cartridge From Printing on an HP DeskJet 895?

The HP DeskJet 895 is a color inkjet printer that uses a set of black and color ink cartridges to produce printed documents. The type of document printed determines the amount and colors of ink used. Printing in full color consumes both black and colored ink, meaning that both cartridges must be replaced more frequently. The DeskJet 895 "Printing Preferences" menu has an option to "Print in Grayscale" that only uses black ink and saves colored ink for when it is actually needed.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. Choose "Devices and Printers."

2. Right-click on the "HP DeskJet 895" icon and select "Printing Preferences."

3. Click the "Color" tab at the top of the "Printing Preferences" window.

4. Click the box next to "Print in Grayscale." A check mark will appear in the box.

5. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window and "OK" to close the window.

Tips & Warnings

• Clicking the "Setup" tab at the top of the "Printing Preferences" window will display an option to select print quality. Choosing "Best" will consume more ink on each of your print jobs. Other settings will use less ink. The printer will only print in grayscale with this option is selected. To print in color, go back to the "Printing Preferences" menu and remove the check mark from the "Print in Grayscale" box.
