Create a place for deer to feed.

Many animal enthusiasts appreciate the beauty of nature but are not fond of animals eating their gardens or yards to shreds. Deer feeders can be made up of various different materials including aluminum, plastic buckets, old bathtubs or really any sort of container that can hold feed. Making legs for a deer feeder is relatively simple once the feeder material is determined. Whether it be an old oil drum or a giant bucket, building a frame and legs for a deer feeder will effectively create a base and support system that will allow deer to feed in some place other than the backyard garden.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the gloves and safety goggles before beginning the project to prevent injury to the hands or eyes.

    • 2

Use the tape measure to measure the bottom of whatever container will be the deer feeder. Write down the measurements using paper and pencil.

    • 3

Measure the 2x4 pieces of wood with the measuring tape and mark them with the pencil. Use the measurements taken from the container as a guideline. The wooden frame for the feeder should be 1 inch wider on all sides than the container that is used for the feeder.

    • 4

Use the saw to cut the 2x4 pieces of lumber along the pencil marks so that they are the correct lengths.

    • 5

Lay the newly cut four pieces on the ground. Lay the pieces together as if they were connected in the shape of the frame, and measure to make certain that the frame is going to fit the container.

    • 6

Use the nail gun to put the newly measured, newly cut pieces together. Nail through the top of one board and into the one behind it, using two or three nails to secure the pieces together. Use the hammer to tap the nails to make certain they are all the way into the lumber pieces.

    • 7

Cut a second frame of wood using the same dimensions as before, and nail it together as in step 6. This will act as the base of the frame.

    • 8

Decide on a height for the legs of the feeder and measure lumber pieces with the tape measure. Mark them with the pencil and cut them with the saw.

    • 9

Nail the legs of the deer feeder from the inside, nailing the planks to the base and feeder frame from the inside.

    • 10

Place the feeder in the new frame.
