How to Make Your Own DIY Card
Homemade greeting cards make a bigger impact than store-bought cards, and they aren't hard to make, either. You don't have to be artistically gifted to create pretty cards; scrapbooking paper in interesting colors and textures adds instant pizazz to your creations, and embellishments such as buttons are easy to attach. Homemade cards are perfect for birthday cards, thank-you notes, get-well cards, invitations and holiday cards.
Things You'll Need
- Card stock, 8.5 by 11 inches
- Scrapbooking paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Markers
- Stickers
- Rubber stamps
- Stamp pad
- Glue gun
- Sequins, beads and other embellishments
Instructions
-
-
1
Fold the card stock horizontally and then vertically to form a card measuring 4.25 by 6 inches.
-
2
Cut a rectangle of scrapbooking paper approximately 3 by 4 inches and use a glue stick to attach the paper to the front of the card. Don't worry about positioning the rectangle exactly on the card's center; for casual cards, imprecise decorations add style.

3
Write a message on the front of the card if desired, such as "Happy Birthday" or "Merry Christmas." Writing the message before you add the design helps you plan the size of the design. Alternately, use a quote from poetry or the Bible as the main design for the front of the card.

4
Attach stickers or cut-out shapes from scrapbooking paper to the front of the card for decorations. Alternately, draw a design. For example, you could draw balloons for a birthday card or cut out a Christmas tree for a holiday card. Add texture to designs with rubber stamps. You can contain your design within the smaller paper square or let it spill over the edges for an edgier, modern look.

5
Glue embellishments such as buttons, sequins, rhinestones, ribbon or beads on the front of the card with a glue gun. Adding one or two embellishments usually looks best; adding too many will make your card look cluttered.
-
6
Write a message on the inside of the card.
