Disposal of Household Chemicals
While most typical household chemicals are safe to dispose of with your regular trash, some require special attention. Before disposing of the chemicals, be sure to use the chemicals up to avoid spillage or human contact during disposal. Most household chemicals will prominently display directions for proper user and disposal clearly on the packaging. It is important to follow these instructions. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Dilute antifreeze with water--at least a 1:1 mix--and pour it down the drain.
-
2
Place kitchen and bathroom cleaners and polishes in a sealed plastic bag and throw away with your normal trash.
-
-
3
Allow any left over paint to completely dry out and harden, and throw out with normal trash.
-
4
Use the entire container of insecticides according to their directions. Save the containers and dispose of them on your community's hazardous waste collection day. Contact your town hall to find out when this is taking place.
-
5
Empty aerosol containers completely and throw out with your normal trash.
-
6
Read the container's label, when in doubt. The labels will alert you to any specific disposal instructions; don't ever remove the labels. It is a good rule of thumb to never pour the chemicals on the ground or in sewer drains. Use up the entirety of the chemical as best you can. Don't mix chemicals together when disposing. Don't bury the chemicals.
