How do I Fax a Scanned Document From a Computer? thumbnail
Windows Fax and Scan lets you send faxes to any fax machine.

Before computers gained popularity, many offices used dedicated fax machines to send documents. Windows computers let you scan any document, then send it as a fax, even if you don't own a fax machine. This is done with the Windows Scan and Fax application. Once your computer is connected to a fax modem or server, you are ready to send your scanned documents.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your computer to a fax modem, if you haven't already. Fax modems connect directly to your computer's motherboard. If connecting to a modem, configure it by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Windows Fax and Scan." Click "Fax," then "New Fax" and "Connect to a fax modem."

    • 2

Connect to a fax server instead of a modem, if your office has one in use. With Windows Fax and Scan open, click "Fax," then "Tools" and "Fax Accounts." Click on "Add," then "Connect to a fax server on my network."

    • 3

Launch Windows Fax and Scan, if it isn't already open, and click "Scan," located in the bottom left area of the window.

    • 4

Click on the name of the file you have scanned, then click "Forward as Fax." If you still need to scan the document, click "File," then "New" and "Fax from Scanner." After this, the "New Fax" window opens.

    • 5

Enter the phone numbers to which you want to fax the scanned document. Add any other information, such as special notes or a cover page, then click "Send."
