How to Mount a Camera on a Live Feed Truck

Mounting a camera to a truck to use as a live video feed can be done in a handful of ways. Whether you use adhesive to hold the camera to a body panel on the truck, a suction cup with a camera mount, or a tripod that's drilled into the surface of the truck, you can easily mount a video camera. Once mounted, the camera can be used to feed video in realtime to any monitors or distribution network that it may be a part of.

Things You'll Need

  • Suction cup-based camera mount

Instructions

  1. Suction-Cup Based Mount

    • 1

Mount the camera to the suction cup mount by screwing the base of the mount into the bottom of the video camera.

    • 2

Place the suction cup on to the surface of the body panel that you want to use as the host for the video camera and turn the lever on the suction cup so that a vacuum is created and the suction cup is adhered to the body panel.

    • 3

Pull on the camera, lightly, to ensure that it's secured to your truck.

    Mount Using Tape

    • 4

Cut three long strips of duct tape of equal length using your scissors. They should not exceed eight inches in length.

    • 5

Place the camera on the surface of the vehicle and hold it, pressing lightly against the body panel using one of your hands.

    • 6

Run the strips of tape over the camera so that the centers of each strip are approximately placed on to the camera. Run the rest of the tape on to the vehicle so that it adheres to the body panel. Ensure that a tight connection is formed. Repeat until all three strips are used.

    Tripod Mount

    • 7

Mount the camera on a small, compact tripod and adjust the tripod so that one or more of the supporting legs is adjusted in a completely vertical manner.

    • 8

Drill a hole through the vertically-aligned tripod leg, then drill a hole with the same width into a body panel or mounting plate on the truck.

    • 9

Secure, using a set of nuts and bolts, the vertical, drilled, tripod log to the side of the vehicle by inserting the bolt into the hole you drilled in Step 2.

    • 10

Tighten the nuts and bolts as necessary until the tripod is secured to the truck.
