How to Attach Newspapers to Shadow Boxes
To mass-produce newspapers on a daily basis, printers use paper that is inexpensive and degrades easily. Thus, preserving a newspaper for generations to come requires the expert care of newspaper preservationists. However, you can take some steps without expert care to preserve your special newspaper clipping for display in a shadow box. Be aware that over time, the paper may degrade. However, using products made specifically for paper preservation will help slow the degradation process.

1
Wash your hands with soap and water to remove any oils. Oils from your hands transferred to the newspaper will eventually cause the paper to degrade.
-
2
Purchase a double-sided tape or adhesive film made for paper or scrapbooking. These tapes are acid free and should not discolor the paper over time. Look for the words "acid free" on the product. If you might want to remove the newspaper at a later date without tearing the paper, then use a removable acid free adhesive. These products are found in most craft or scrapbooking stores.

3
Cut the tape to the size you need. At a minimum, you'll want to have a 1-inch strip of tape or adhesive at each corner of the newspaper, placed as close to the edge as possible. If you are using an adhesive with an applicator, you can skip this step.
-
4
Adhere the tape or adhesive to the back of the newspaper. It's easier to set the paper in the position you want in the shadow box if you adhere the tape to the back of the newspaper first.
-
5
Set the newspaper on the inside of the shadow box in the position you want. Then, press on the paper with your hands where the adhesive is placed, starting at the top and working your way down the paper until the newspaper is secure.
