Directions for Dutch Blitz
In the card game Dutch Blitz, each player has her own deck of 40 cards, with one card for each of the digits from 1 to 10 in blue, green, yellow and red. Each player's deck bears a different design: a carriage, a pail, a plow or a pump. All of the players work simultaneously to play cards from their decks to foundation piles in the center of the table. Dutch Blitz is a speed-based card game that requires fast reflexes, and it's designed for two to four players ages 8 and older.
Instructions
-
-
1
Give each player a deck of 40 cards with a different design and shuffle each deck individually.
-
2
Flip over cards from the top of your deck and place each one in front of you in a separate pile. Form three piles, called post piles, for each player in games with three or four players and five post piles in games with two players.
-
-
3
Deal the next 10 cards from the top of your deck face-down into another pile, called the blitz pile. Flip over your blitz pile so that the bottom card is face-up and place it next to your post piles.
-
4
Say "Go!" when all of the players have set up their post and blitz piles and indicated that they're ready to start the game.
-
5
Play any face-up cards bearing the digit 1 from your post and blitz piles to the center of the table to start Dutch piles. Play additional cards to Dutch piles in ascending numerical order and matching color; for example, play a red 2 on top of a red 1.
-
6
Play cards to your post piles in consecutive descending order, alternating between boy and girl cards. Play one post pile onto another post pile in this fashion to free up a post pile. Refill an empty post pile with the top card of your blitz pile.
-
7
Take the top three cards from your deck and flip them over into a waste pile, called the wood pile, when you run out of available moves. Play the top card from the wood pile to a Dutch pile or one of your post piles.
-
8
Cycle through your deck by threes; when your deck is depleted, pick up the wood pile, flip it over and cycle through it again.
-
9
Continue the hand until one player uses all of the cards from his blitz pile and shouts "Blitz!"
-
10
Sort the Dutch piles by design and count the number of cards played to those piles by each person. Count the cards remaining in each player's blitz pile and deduct two points for each card from her total from the Dutch piles. Write each player's total on the score sheet.
-
11
Play additional rounds until one player wins the game with a score of 75 points.

Tips & Warnings
Each player builds and plays from only his own post, blitz and wood piles, but the Dutch piles are communal.
