How to Change FedEx Shipping Information While in Transit

Rerouting a FedEx shipment can be accomplished by making a phone call.

FedEx provides customers with the possibility of changing shipping information of a package while in transit. This service is called reroute request and it is offered for FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery shipments. The request process must be authorized by the sender, and a limit of one reroute per package is allowed. The new shipping information or reroute must fall within valid criteria, such as same city and state or at a FedEx hold-at-location. The corresponding service charge for the address correction will be reflected as an extra shipping fee in the final invoice.

Instructions

1. Re-route a FedEx in-transit shipment by calling 1-800-463-3339 (1-800-GoFedEx). Follow the automated phone system and ask to speak with a representative.

2. Provide the FedEx representative with the tracking number or door-tag that corresponds to the package being shipped.

3. Provide the representative with the new shipping information, including the new address, recipient's name and phone number. You will be notified that money-back guaranteed policies do not apply to redirect packages.

4. Accept the notification in order for the reroute process is confirmed. The person that picks up the reroute package might need to provide photo ID to receive the FedEx package.
