How to Use a Mannequin
Whether you are a teacher, student, retail store manager or fashion enthusiast, there are several uses for mannequins. They can be used in presentations, demonstrations or window displays to help transmit a message or idea. Mannequins make occasions more memorable and, when used in the classroom, make lessons more enjoyable. What's important is that the mannequin look the part so that it works as a convincing life sized model.

1
Dress the mannequin in clothing that is appropriate to the occasion or lesson. For example, a classroom mannequin for teaching students the parts of a body should be dressed in casual, campus clothes such as a sweatshirt and blue jeans. Retail store mannequins can be outfitted in the store's latest arrivals or in clothing that will attract clientele.

2
Use clothes pins to cinch the clothing in so that it appears to fit the mannequin the same way it would fit a human being. Loose or ill-fitting clothing do little to bring life to the plastic form. Instead, better fitting clothes make it more stylish and lifelike.

Choose accessories that complete the mannequin's look. Accessorize the mannequin according to the occasion. Some mannequins have hair as part of their molds. Others will require a wig, hat or both. Also, hang handbags, backpacks or jewelry from the form in a way that looks natural.

4
Select shoes for the mannequin that can be used to support the form if it does not have an accompanying stand. Double sided adhesive tape on the shoe's outer sole can help it stick to hard floors. For carpet, the mannequin will need to be propped up somehow, either against a wall or held up by the presenter.
