The radiator in a Class A RV, much like those in a typical automobile, passes coolant through the vehicle's engine block to circulate coolant and decrease the engine's temperature. You might want to remove a radiator when replacing one that's malfunctioning, or if you are storing the RV for an extended period of time.

Things You'll Need:

  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pans
  • Pry bar

1. Slide a wide drain pan under the RV

Slide a wide drain pan under the RV, on the driver's side.

2. Turn the drain valve to the open position

Turn the drain valve to the open position. The drain valve is located near the bottom of the radiator. Allow the fluid to drip into the drain pan. When fluid stops draining, turn the valve to the closed position.

3. Slide the drain pan toward the passenger side of the car

Slide the drain pan toward the passenger side of the car. Slide a second drain pan beneath the radiator.

4. Loosen the clamp attaching the bottom radiator hose using a screwdriver

Loosen the clamp attaching the bottom radiator hose using a screwdriver. Grasp the clamp and slide it up the radiator hose. Grasp the hose, where the radiator hose meets the hose nipple, and pull the hose off the radiator.

5. Loosen the fittings of the transmission cooling line using a wrench

Loosen the fittings of the transmission cooling line using a wrench. Grasp the line and pull it off the radiator. In some radiators, you may need to use a wrench to hold the radiator bolt in place while you loosen the cooling tube's fitting.

6. Remove the clamp that connects the upper radiator hose

Remove the clamp that connects the upper radiator hose to the top of the radiator. Grasp the upper radiator hose and pull it away from the radiator. Remove the clamp that connects the radiator to the hose of the coolant reservoir. Remove the hose.

7. Remove the bolts located on the brackets of the radiator

Remove the bolts located on the brackets of the radiator using a socket wrench. Remove the bracket.

8. Slide a pry bar between the RV's radiator support and the top tank of the radiator

Slide a pry bar between the RV's radiator support and the top tank of the radiator. Pry the radiator from the RV until it disconnects from the radiator support.

9. Disconnect the harness from the radiator

Disconnect the harness from the radiator. Grasp the radiator's sensor bracket and pull it off the radiator.

10. Grasp the radiator with both hands

Grasp the radiator with both hands and pull it off the radiator support.

Warning

Do not drive your RV without a radiator.

  • How many hours was that? Wondering if taking the a wheel and going in through the side would have been an option? Great video, then you for posting it. I'm going to have to do the same thing this weekend. Ugh!
  • Looks kinda time consuming perfect though thanks for the video
