How to Shrink Clothes in a Bag by Sucking the Air Out With a Vacuum

Save

Vacuum bags are an affordable storage option that allows you to place clothing inside, then suck out the air to create an air-tight seal. Not only does this shrink down your storage bag but it also seals out moisture, bugs and other elements that could accumulate in a regular storage bin. The storage bags also work on blankets and other textiles, and can be used with ease.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum storage bags
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Open the zipper seal on the bag and place all of your clothing inside.

  • Close the seal just as you would a zipper-lock sandwich bag. Often you are given a tool that allows you to slide it across the seal quickly.

  • Twist off the cap of the round vacuum seal opening. Place the hose attachment of the vacuum directly over the seal and turn on your vacuum.

  • Suck out the air, laying the bag flat as needed and pushing on thicker areas of the bag to speed up the process.

  • Turn off the vacuum and briskly snap on the cap for the vacuum seal after you have sucked out as much air as possible. You should typically have a fairly even, flat surface when all air is sucked out of the bags.
