Avoid the Rolodex and use Bizjournals to find the business you're looking for.

Bizjournals is a website that provides local business and industry-wide news from around the United States. It also gives business owners tools to help them operate and manage their business more successfully. One of these tools is the index or business directory that lists companies by city and field. To have your company indexed on Bizjournals, choose the Gold, Silver, Bronze or Free option and then sign up for it online.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the Bizjournals home page (see References) and scroll to the bottom of the page. Under "Services," click on "Local Business Directory." Click on "Learn More" under the "Businesses" section of the Web page you are taken to.

    • 2

Choose the type of listing you'd like to use and click "Sign Up" under the option you'd like. With a Gold listing, your business will be listed within one category and be the most visible of any other listing category. With a Silver listing, your business will be listed within one category and be better placed than those in the Bronze category. With a Bronze listing, your business ad will have better placement than the free option and have a Listing Badge that users can click on to see your directory listing. The Free listing will display your company's name, address and phone number; a description of your company; and a link to your website.

    • 3

Enter the required information on the following Web page. This will include information about you, including your name and phone number; information about your company, including its name and location; and information about your advertising criteria, including your advertising budget and the industry you are interested in advertising. Click "Submit."

    • 4

Wait for a Bizjournals representative to contact you by phone or email. When you are contacted by a representative, you will discuss what your business listing will include and its price. The representative will give you a username and password to sign in to your bizjournals account.

    • 5

Pay the listing fee via credit card through your Bizjournals account. Complete a listing for your business and send it back to the representative to post on the listings portion of the website. Your listing will be about 150 words, so when writing it be as concise as possible. Include only the most important information about your business, such as what products or services you provide, why you are the best in your area at providing them, where you're located, and how customers can get in contact with you if they have any other questions.
