How to Endorse a Check for an Organization to Deposit Only
Before depositing a check into a bank account you must endorse the check. The most common form of endorsement is the account holder's signature on the back of the check. If an authorized signatory for the organization is unavailable to endorse the check, the check is still able to be deposited into the organization's bank account. To deposit the unsigned check, it must be marked "For Deposit Only."
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay the check on a flat surface with the side that reads "Endorse Check Here" facing up.
-
2
Locate the "X" on the top line of the check.
-
-
3
Write "For Deposit Only" on the top line of the check next to the "X," using a pen.
-
4
Write the organization's name that the check is made out to, on the second line of the check.
-
5
Write your organization's bank account number on the third line of the check, if you prefer. Most banks do not require you to write your account number on the check but it adds an additional form of protection because that check cannot be deposited into any account but that specific account. If you do not have the account number, the bank should be able to look it up for you by using the organization's name.
-
6
Fill out a banking deposit slip if your bank requires one. The deposit slip can be found at the bank. You may need to write the organization's name that you work for, the date you are depositing the check and the total amount the check is worth.
-
7
Deposit the check, using the deposit slip if necessary, into your organization's bank account.
