How to Make Napkin Rings Out of Shower Hooks

Homemade napkin-rings are easily made with shower curtain hooks.

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg to present a decorative dinner-setting. In fact, using discarded, but clean, items from around the home gives you a way to save a few dollars. An easy and eco-friendly way to make napkin holders gives you a use for old shower curtain rings. Knowing how to make napkin holders out of shower curtain hooks isn't difficult and provides you with completely customizable table embellishments.

Things You'll Need

• Shower hooks
• Hot glue gun
• Ribbon roll
• Scissors
• Assorted embellishments
• Napkins

Instructions

1. Grasp a shower hook in your hand with the gapped part of it facing you. The gapped part is the part that ordinarily slides through curtains.

2. Apply a line of hot glue along the surface of the circumference of the hook.

3. Cut a length of ribbon measuring about 10 inches. Wrap the length of ribbon several times around the shower hook ring, pressing the fabric against the glued surface. This conceals the appearance of the shower curtain hook and gives it an upholstered look. Let it dry for 5 minutes.

4. Glue an embellishment to the fabric area covering the flimsy gapped part of the hook. Embellishment ideas are wide and depend on the theme of the rings you are making. For instance, a sprig of artificial grapes from a craft store can be glued to the area. Other ideas are entirely up to you.

5. Spread a napkin out flatly in front of you. Grasp it from the center and pull upward, causing the napkin to hang downward in a uniform shape. Pull the pinched part of fabric between your thumb and forefinger, through the opening of the homemade napkin ring. Slide the ring down half of the length of the napkin.
