How to Use Anointing Oil
The act of anointing with oil is seen throughout the Bible and is used for healing, prayer and scent. Christian Courier points out that its most likely purpose was symbolic and for God's approval. In modern times, this act is not performed daily but is used for prayers and sometimes for healing.

1
Obtain an anointing oil. The most common anointing oil is olive oil. However, Reverend Ken Collins points out that some oils have frankincense or myrrh added to them for scent. The Reverend suggests paying extra for the anointing oil only if it has the added scent or otherwise using olive oil.

2
Pour a small amount of oil into a small container. These containers are usually available in Christian bookstores, according to Reverend Ken Collins.

3
Consecrate the oil, if you prefer. Since the oil is used as a symbol, it is not necessary to have it consecrated. However, it is possible if you prefer.
-
4
Tip a small amount of oil onto your finger, and then place the oil on the other person's forehead. Make a cross out of the oil as preferred or according to personal faith and beliefs. State the person's name, that she is anointed and then offer prayers.
