How to Disable the ATI Hotkey Poller

The ATI Hotkey Poller service, also known as the ATI external event utility, is a program that monitors the system for key presses and allows users to change the graphic profile of their video settings using a hotkey. This is useful when playing a game or a full-screen application that is optimized using a different settings profile. Many users do not make use of this service and it takes up memory in the system. Disabling the service will free up valuable system resources.

  • Press the "Windows" and "R" key together to open the Run prompt.

  • Type "services.msc" and press "Enter."

  • Scroll down to "ATI external event utility" under the "Name" column. Double-click it.

  • Click the drop-down menu next to "Startup type" and choose "Disabled."

  • Click "Stop" below "Service status" to shut down the currently running service.

  • Click "OK" to save your changes and close the services window.
