How to Set an Electric Timer for a Swimming Pool

An automatic pool cleaner is a simple, hassle-free way to keep the water in your swimming pool as clean as possible. Since most pool cleaners are capable of cleaning an entire pool in just eight to 10 hours, it's unnecessary to leave them running continuously. Electric swimming pool timers solve this problem by allowing you to program the pool cleaner to run only during specified times. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Locate your home's circuit breaker box, usually located in the basement or garage.

    • 2

Open the breaker box and locate the circuit breaker associated with the electric pool timer. Move the switch to "Off."

    • 3

Open the timer door to access the timer adjustment wheel. Note the "Time" bar mounted to the center of the wheel and used to indicate the current time. Grab the wheel and gently pull it toward you about an eighth of an inch. Rotate the wheel until the "Time" bar indicates the correct time.

    • 4

Use a small screwdriver to loosen, but not remove, the timer's "On" pin. Slide the loosened pin around the edge of wheel until it indicates the desired starting time for the pool cleaner. Tighten the pin with your screwdriver. Use the same process to adjust the timer's "Off" pin.

    • 5

Close the door to your pool timer.

    • 6

Return to the circuit breaker box and flip the switch that corresponds to your pool timer back to the "On" position.

Tips & Warnings

  • Reset the electric pool timer after each power outage.

  • Setting instructions may vary by the brand and model of pool timer. Contact the timer's manufacturer if you need setting instructions specific to your model.
