Among the vehicles manufactured by the Yamaha Motor Corporation are snowmobiles, which are useful for getting around on snow-laden areas without any roads or trails. These require different accessories to maximize their use, and Polaris Industries is one company that manufactures accessories, which include ATV snowplows. One of its more well-known snowplows is the Glacier, which can be mounted onto any Yamaha ATV.

Instructions

  1. The Plow

    • 1

Line up the Glacier with the wear bar holes on the plow blade's lower part. The wear bar ensures that your plow blade will be protected from damage.

    • 2

Slip a 5/16-by-1 inch carriage bolt into each hole. Place a 5/16-inch metal nut in every bolt's threaded end. Use a wrench to tighten each nut.

    • 3

Place a ½-inch jam nut and a ½-inch lock washer on each of the ski shoes.

    • 4

Insert the threaded end of each skid shoe up into the small holes in the back of the plow blade.

    • 5

Place a ½-inch lock washer on top of the threaded end of the skid shoes, and tighten the ½-inch nut using a flexible wrench.

    • 6

Be sure that all the connections are secure.

    The Mount Plate

    • 7

Take off the roller guide. It features precision rollers that allow for a stable and smooth linear motion, which is necessary for mounting various elements of the Glacier's frame.

    • 8

Affix the support plate to the frame of your ATV, then put 3-by-1 inch hex bolts into the right holes; keep them in place using half-inch nuts. Be sure that you don't link the support plate to the ATV's axle, because doing so can make your vehicle flip over.

    • 9

Line up the holes of the mount plate's front section and the small holes above the support place. Place a plastic lock washer and a rubber flat washes onto two 5/8 inch hex bolts, then put the bolts in the holes, tightening them with your finger.

    • 10

Line up the holes in the back part of the mount plate within the holes on the threaded block. Put another lock washer and flat washer onto two 5/8 inch hex bolts, then push the bolts into the small holes. Tighten each nut around every threaded end bolt using an adjustable wrench.

    • 11

Use a wrench to tighten all the nuts.

    Attach the Plow Blade

    • 12

Place the holes along the back portion of the plow blade, taking care to align the mounting holes found on the mount plate. If you can reach the underside of your ATV, use two jacks to lift the front portion so you can have access.

    • 13

Put a mounting bolt into every hole.

    • 14

Tighten all the nuts onto each of the mounting bolts before you attach the plow blade to the mount. This is the last step in installing the Glacier plow, and you can then start removing snow from the area.

Tips & Warnings

  • The thread block is the square with a hole located at the top portion of the support plate.
