A backsplash is often the focal point of a kitchen. Peel-and-stick wall tile is perfect for a kitchen backsplash because it is easy to clean. The tile is also a lot easier to install than normal tile -- often going up in an afternoon, and with far less mess. If your walls are freshly painted, you should wait three weeks for the paint to set before installing peel-and-stick tiles.
Things You'll Need
- Soft cloth
- Peel and stick wall tiles
- Utility knife
- Metal ruler
Clean the walls with a degreaser and a soft cloth. When you are finished cleaning the walls, they should be free of grease, dirt and moisture.
Decide on a layout for the peel-and-stick tiles. Place the tiles on the countertop or floor next to the wall. Arrange the tiles until you are happy with the layout. Mark the starting point for the layout on the wall with a pencil. In most cases, it is better to start the installation at the bottom of the wall and work your way up.
Begin installing the tiles on the wall. Peel away approximately 2 inches of the paper from the left side of the back of the tile. Set the tile in place on the wall. Adjust the tile until you are happy with the alignment. Press the left side of the tile into place and gently remove the backing from the rest of the tile at the same time. Smooth the tile with your hand to ensure that it is set firmly in place and that there are no bubbles in it.
Repeat the process with the rest of the tiles. Cut the tiles to size as needed with a utility knife and a metal ruler.
