Way to Find Out the Status on a Pending Approval of a Green Card thumbnail
A green card allows immigrants permanent resident status in the United States.

People living in the United States that were not born here and who are not U.S. citizens are issued green cards, which provide permission for them to live and work here as permanent residents. There are multiple ways to obtain a green card, such as being sponsored by a friend or family member, by an employer or through refugee or asylum. Some people apply for their own green cards. Whatever method you used to apply for your green card, you can find out the status of your application by checking with the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service.

Instructions

Retrieve one of the application notices you have received from the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service, such as the confirmation that your application was filed. You'll need the 13-digit application receipt number listed on this correspondence to check the status of your pending approval.

    • 2

Visit the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service website when you have your application receipt number on hand. Choose "Tools" in the far right column and select the option to check your case status.

    • 3

Enter the 13-digit application code in the boxes provided and click on "Acceptance" to view the status of your application.
