How to Prep & Paint
Painting your home is a job that requires much preparation. Before undertaking such a task, carefully examine the room that you are about to paint. You must consider whether you want to use the original color again or to paint the room a different color. If you want to keep the room the same color, one coat will do; if you wish to use a different one, use two coats to cover the former color. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Move all items to the center of the room you are to paint. Cover them with protective plastic or canvas cloths.
-
2
Strip the walls of everything, including light switch covers. Use a screwdriver to get the covers off the wall.
-
-
3
Write down the color and the amount of paint you wish to use. Temporarily tape it in the light switch cover.
-
4
Cover all unmovable light fixtures with trash bags if you will not need the light to help you paint.
-
5
Remove all tacks and staples from the walls using the forked part of a hammer. Patch the smaller holes with spackle or joint compound. Use painter's caulk on the larger holes.
-
6
Wipe down all parts of the wall you wish to paint. Remove all dust or dirt to avoid peeling after you have painted. Use a damp cloth.
-
7
Allow the walls to completely dry.
-
8
Ventilate the area you wish to paint. Paint fumes are extremely toxic. Place a fan in the window so that the fresh air blows toward you.
-
9
Paint the large areas of the wall with a roller. Use broad, yet careful strokes.
-
10
Paint the corners and the baseboards. Use a paintbrush. Make gentle, narrow strokes.
